SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Li Arellano, Jr released the following statement after today’s State of the State and Budget Address:

“Today’s budget proposal highlights the ongoing failures of Illinois’ current administration. Another record-breaking budget, filled with more taxes and more spending, makes it clear: Governor Pritzker’s economics are flawed.

“Once again, Illinois continues to trail national economic growth, as it has all seven years under this governor. Instead of changing course, this proposal doubles down on the same high tax, unaffordable spending policies that are driving up costs for families and businesses.

“To make matters worse, the governor repeatedly pointed fingers at President Trump rather than taking responsibility for the challenges his own policies have created here in Illinois.

“I am encouraged to see movement toward nuclear energy growth as well as efforts to reduce barriers in the homebuilding process. I hope he chooses to follow through on the work required to make those proposals a real solution. Beyond those items, however, there is very little in this proposal that should give Illinois families confidence.”
