The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is now accepting applications for $2.4 million in grant funding aimed at strengthening Illinois’ tourism industry by supporting local attractions, events and festivals across the state.
According to DCEO, Illinois welcomed 115 million visitors in 2025, highlighting the continued importance of tourism to communities and local economies throughout the state.
The funding is available through two grant programs designed to help communities develop and improve tourism attractions and bring more visitors to Illinois.
The Tourism Attraction Grant Program will provide $1.8 million to support the development or improvement of new and existing tourism attractions, including museums, recreation areas, amusement parks and other destinations. Eligible applicants can apply for grants ranging from $15,000 to $200,000. A 1:1 funding match is required for nonprofit organizations, while for-profit entities must provide a 3:1 match.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Private Sector Grant Program will provide $600,000 to help attract, host and develop new or expanded events and festivals throughout Illinois. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, units of government, for-profit entities and local promotional groups. Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000, with a 1:1 matching requirement.
Applications for both programs must be submitted by 5 p.m. on November 13, 2026. Applicants must also meet the state’s grant prequalification requirements.
