The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has opened a new round of support through the Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program (CBRAP), offering emergency rental assistance to renters facing eviction due to unpaid rent.

CBRAP is designed to keep vulnerable Illinois families housed and reduce the risk of homelessness. Under the program, eligible households can receive up to $10,000 to cover overdue rent, up to $700 in court costs, and as much as two months of future rent.

Approved grant payments are made directly to landlords, who must agree to dismiss the eviction proceedings for tenants to stay in their homes. This assistance is a one-time benefit and does not have to be repaid.

To qualify, renters must live in Illinois, be actively involved in an eviction court case, and have a household income at or below 80% of the area’s median income. Applications for tenants and landlords are available now at illinoishousinghelp.org.
