Seeks to crack down on issues from red light cameras
Springfield, IL… Red-light cameras and other automatic traffic systems frequently get it wrong, said State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods), who is pushing legislation to better protect drivers that are wrongfully issued automatic parking, traffic, or speeding tickets.
“Too often, individuals are wrongfully ticketed and have to jump through hoops to attempt to clear themselves from the mistake. This is becoming an all-too-common problem, and one that can be a costly burden to innocent people,” said Sen. McConchie. “I hope this legislation helps drivers who are the victims of this flawed and failed traffic system that is causing more harm than good.”
In an effort to ensure those being ticketed are the actual violators, Senate Bill 1214 would require violations to be dismissed if the listed state registration number or vehicle make provided in the notice is incorrect.
“This legislation is just the first step in fully reforming these controversial ticketing systems,” said Sen. McConchie. “And, if we cannot make them beyond reproach, then we should ban them altogether.”
McConchie says Senate Bill 1214 has bipartisan support and is hopeful the Illinois Senate will vote on the legislation in the near future.
