State Senator Neil Anderson has released the below statement following the Senate passage of Amendment 1 and 2 to House Bill 1095, which makes some changes to the dangerous SAFE-T Act:

“For the last two years, Democrats have worked to reinvent our criminal justice system behind closed doors, leading to massive concerns by the public, law enforcement, and prosecutors, who say the SAFE-T Act will have major impacts on public safety.

“Despite Democrats’ attempts to say opponents of the law are fearmongering, today they passed a bill that changes some of those dangerous provisions. However, these changes aren’t nearly enough to ensure the safety of our communities. In fact, this bill even goes further and attempts to hide from the public the dangers their no cash bail system could have by not requiring pre-trial release information to be released to the public.”
